This segment aired on Jim Rome Is Burning prior to UFC 86, and as usual, it features Rampage talking some serious smack!

Rampage is putting his foot in his mouth only because he lost. If he won, he would've been da man, and a crazy funny one!

Hungry Actor UFC Exclusive

Exclusive to the Hungry Actor we have a recap of Rampage's devastating and controversial loss to Forest Griffin tonight. Here we have Yardbarker's Pelechati and Oflarity from the Sports Muffin. The Hungry Actor decided to stay behind the camera for this one.

Personally I thought Rampage won the fight. I had him easily winning Round 1, obviously losing round 2-but I did not think Forest did enough after hurting Rampage's knee to warrant a 10-8 win, then I thought Rampage took rounds 3 and 4 by landing cleaner and more damaging shots. I thought Round 5 was a toss up but again I thought Rampage edged Forest out. Either way it was easily the best fight that I have seen in a long time and I can't wait for the rematch.

The only other highlights of the night was the incredible submission by Joe "daddy" Stevenson to save himself from losing, and Melvin Guillard's assassination of Dennis Silver. Other than that I think I was alone in the room by enjoying the Almeida/Cote fight.

Next time The Hungry Actor will step in front of the camera.

The Anatomy of Patrick Cote's victory over Ricardo Almeida

Overview :

By beating Ricardo Almeida, Patrick Cote has gotten over the psychological hurdle of past failures against submission experts and decision losses to more experienced, superior fighters.

Although it is debatable whether Cote was a bona fide underdog against Almeida, Almeida's grappling advantage over Cote was greater than Cote's striking advantage over Almeida.

So how did Patrick Cote get the split decision win over Ricardo Almeida?

1. Patrick Cote took advantage of his superior size :

Patrick Cote is the taller, and naturally bigger, man than Ricardo Almeida. Cote got taken down by Almeida early, and got pounded, but once he survived that, it was his fight. Also, with longer legs, keeping a wide stance was really all that was necessary for Cote to stuff Almeida's takedowns.

After taking Round 1, Almeida tried way too hard to take Cote down; Cote, using his superior size advantage and wrestling remedial lessons, simply outstronged Almeida. Even when he was able to take Cote down, Almeida was just too sapped to do anything decisive against the bigger and stronger Cote.

2. Patrick Cote is the superior striker :

By negating Ricardo Almeida's size and strength advantage, Patrick Cote turned the tables on Almeida. On paper, Almeida's grappling advantage is bigger than Cote's striking advantage, but with Almeida's technique not working against Cote's strength and conditioning, Cote had his way standing up.

With one-punch knockout power in both hands, there was no way Cote was going to lose a standup battle against Almeida on Saturday night. Cote simply looked to land power shots with his hands, chopped Almeida's legs with low kicks, and kept Almeida on the run.

3. Patrick Cote brought the raw aggression :

Great strikers are by nature raw aggressors, but knowing that he survived Ricardo Almeida's best shots in the first round, Patrick Cote simply engaged in a free-for-all from Round 2 onwards. He chased Almeida around the Octagon, tried to find the range with his jab, and looked to land his heavy right hand.

Cote's right that knocked down Almeida at the end of Round 2 was a prime example of Cote's primal rage on display. Although it came too late to finish Almeida, Cote landed the shot at a running, guard-dropping Almeida. It it had come sooner, it may as well have led to a fight-ending ground-n-pound.

Summary :

By beating the more experienced Ricardo Almeida in UFC 86, Patrick Cote demonstrated that a powerful striker with the size and strength advantage can have his way with a superb grappler with a striking disadvantage. Cote wasn't afraid of Almeida's power, so he chased Almeida down, looking to take him out. In the event that Almeida tried to take him down, Cote knew he just had to apply his superior strength to some basic leverage to neutralize Almeida.

As a result, Patrick Cote was able to set the tone of the fight by being aggressive, and though he didn't land as many hard shots as he would have liked, he got the split decision win over a guy who was supposed to be the superior fighter, and now gets his middleweight title shot against Anderson Silva!

1. Chuck Liddell - He's big, has a mohawk, and a reputation for being pretty damn good street fighter. Is there another choice for number one?

2. Kimbo Slice - Kimbo is one of the most intimidating.................

The Anatomy of Forrest Griffin's upset victory over Rampage Jackson

Overview :

Forrest Griffin displayed in his UFC 86 fight against Rampage Jackson that by fighting with a superior, disciplined battle plan designed to weaken his component's core and utilize his own strengths, an underdog can defeat a heavy favorite.

Basically, Forrest Griffin masterfully executed his game plan of the following components to overcome Rampage Jackson via unanimous decision :

1. Leg kicks to shake Rampage's foundation :

Every man's base are his legs, and even if you're a beast like Rampage, if you don't have your legs, your chances of winning are reduced dramatically. From the opening bell, Forrest Griffin went after Jackson's legs. Although, he had been knocked down by Jackson in the first round, Griffin's persistent leg-kicking had Rampage wobbly by the end of the round.

In Round 2, Griffin unleashed his leg kicks full force, and his pain infliction on Rampage enabled him to take Rampage Jackson. He went for the standing guillotine choke, but when that didn't work, he went on top of Rampage, gained full mount and gave Rampage a steady dose of short range elbows, and almost submitted him.

2. A disciplined boxing game :

The leg kicks allowed Forrest Griffin to take Rampage Jackson out of his game plan, but it was the boxing that allowed Griffin to give Rampage a steady dose of the leg kicks. Griffin continually pressed the action with his constant movement and one-twos.

The combination of the pain in his legs and the chaos created by the constant movement and left-rights messed with Rampage's head and totally took Rampage out of the fight psychologically. Rampage Jackson ended up displaying very little of his action style that he displayed in knocking out Chuck Liddell and beating Dan Henderson. Instead of zigzagging, Rampage moved mostly back and forth, and occasionally moved side to side. He was unable to sustain any kind of rhythm, and he displayed none of his range-traversing fluidity.

3. Paying attention to the details of groundfighting :

What sealed the deal for Forrest Griffin were the little details that he paid attention to in his grappling. Whenever he was taken down by Rampage, he clung to Rampage like a suction cup, so that Rampage could not pound him senseless. Also, in Round 4, when a failed triangle choke attempt from underneath could have turned him into another Ricardo Arona, he unbuckled Jackson's hold just in time so that he wouldn't be powerbombed full force.

Summary :

It is obvious from the way that Forrest Griffin fought that he thoroughly prepared himself to fight Rampage Jackson : Forrest shook Rampage's whole foundation with his painful leg kicks ; even though he knew he couldn't knock out Rampage with his hands, he never stopped moving his feet or throwing his one-twos.

In turn, his hands set up more leg kicks, and more pain for Rampage. Forrest did take some hard hits from Rampage, but he didn't take so many that he would lose the fight. Even when Rampage took Griffin to the ground via knockdowns or takedowns, he did whatever he could to neutralize Rampage's strength and position advantage by sticking to Rampage like glue.

Coming into the fight, Forrest Griffin had to fight the fight of his life to beat Rampage Jackson, who is as hot as any fighter in the UFC. Most people, myself included, didn't think Forrest would fight that fight, as chances of someone fighting that well aren't really high. But Forrest Griffin, just like he outgamed Shogun Rua, outdid Rampage Jackson, and is now the proud UFC light heavyweight champion!

Forrest Griffin Overcomes the Rampage, Wins UFC Gold

Forrest Griffin proved to the world of MMA that he's more than just a reality star by beating Quinton 'Rampage' Jackson for the UFC light-heavyweight championship.
Days before the fight, Griffin was the clear underdog for the fight and some experts believed that Jackson will win the fight, at least based on paper. But Griffin stepped up for the biggest fight of his career and fought his way to capture the 205-pound world title by unanimous decision.

Clear-cutting: Forrest Griffin takes down Rampage Jackson to win UFC Light Heavy Title

The improbable yet admirable career of Forrest Griffin has finally come full circle as Griffin earned a unanimous decision over Rampage Jackson Saturday night to win the UFC Light Heavyweight title.

The judges scored it 49-46, 48-46, 48-46 for Griffin who is now 16-4 and sits just a few years removed from headlining the main event of the organization's reality show. Now, he is the champion in the UFC's most hotly-contested division.

For what it's worth, Ropes Ring and Cage scored the bout 48-47 for Jackson with rounds 1, 3, and 4 going to Rampage by 10-9 scores with Griffin taking rounds 2 and 5 by 10-9.

"I'm not a feared guy but I'm going to fight you for 25 minutes," Griffin told the Candian Press. "Whoever you are, anybody at 205. I'm not going to break. I'm not going to quit."

Jackson, who is now 28-7 and had been on a roll with a title win over Chuck Liddell and subsequent defense against Pride champ Dan Henderson thought he won the fight but knew of what could happen when you let the fight go to the cards.

"You know what, I didn't think Forrest could hang with me," Jackson told the Canadian Press. "I said if Forrest gets past the third round, he'll gain my respect. And I respect him. And if I ever fight him again, I'm going to respect the hell out of him with my right hand."

Griffin reeled off a wicked leg lick to Jackson's left knee/thigh area that affected the now former champion all night, especially in Round 5 when he was noticeably limping and unable to aggressively attack Griffin. Griffin had a pretty badly bloodied right eye, but nothing intense enough to warrant a stoppage. Most of the fight was on their feet with a few takedowns, marked by Griffin almost locking in a triangle at one point midway through the fight.

I feel there is no doubt we'll see a rematch, likely November/December 2008.

Other results:

Patrick Cote defeated Ricardo Almeida

Joe Stevenson beat Gleison Tibau

Josh Koscheck beat Chris Lytle

Matt Serra fought on the show, won it and eventually won a title, but Forrest Griffin became the first true competitor from the show to achieve World Champion status.

This is Horrible-Ha Ha Horrible That Is

The sad thing is the fight is still better than both Kimbo's and Kalib Starnes' last fight. The sadder thing is that the fight lasts as long as it does-how come he can't knock this kid out? The saddest thing is that the MMA fighter was willing to take the fight.

Previewing UFC 86: Forrest Griffin vs. Rampage Jackson

Forrest Griffin and Rampage Jackson are set to face off on Saturday night for the UFC Light-heavyweight title, but there is one thing that stands out about this match-up: unlike most fights lately, there isn't very much trash talk going on between the two men. This fight doesn't need it. Griffin and Jackson are two of the most popular fighters in the UFC and two of the most straight-forward fighters you will find. Unlike most fighters, Griffin is willing to concede is faults and where he is still lacking as a fighter. Jackson is pure entertainment and may cut the best interviews in all of MMA.
