The Most Complete NFL Power Rankings - Preseason

I went around to six major mainstream media sports websites, and compiled their NFL preseason power rankings to create the ultimate power rankings. This list will be updated weekly, and anytime there is a change to these sites' rankings. I will also add other sites as they publish their rankings (some haven't published theirs yet). Visit the URL to read the full rankings.

I didn't rank these teams, it's a consensus of the media. So take issue with them.

NFL 2008 Season Preview and Predictions - AFC

The NFL kicks off its regular season in less than a week and I am pumped! It seems like it was just yesterday that I had to watch Eli and the Giants do the impossible against the Patriots. I have a lot of thoughts and predictions on how the upcoming season will play out. I truly believe that this will be the year of a changing of the guard in the AFC.

Not Much Drama in Tonight’s Preseason Finale

What will the Broncos be looking to do in tonight's preseason finale at Arizona? Not much. Other than doing the most important thing - which of course is to stay healthy, this will be more like a JV game between a lot of players that won't be on their teams roster come tomorrow. The Broncos [...]

Dallas Defeats Minnesota 16-10 To End Preseason

It wasn't exactly pretty or fun to watch, but Dallas did manage to beat the Minnesota Vikings 16-10 Thursday night on the strength of three Nick Folk field goals and a Tashard Choice touchdown run to end their preseason at 2-2. Richard Bartel was efficient, but not spectacular by any means in his first NFL start going 28-of-41 for 233 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions.
The most explosive play of the game also led to the worst result as WR Sam Hurd rushed for 35-yards on an end around reverse play, but came up limping after the tackle. He was taken in for X-rays which were inconclusive, but the words "high ankle sprain" were used in reference to the injury. This could mean yet another Cowboys wide receiver will not be available until two or three weeks into the season.
Before the game began, word was out that Dallas had traded for Montrae Holland, a guard from the Denver Broncos, in return for a 2010 fifth-round draft pick to help shore-up a depleted offensive line. Holland started every game last year at left guard for the Broncos and may be Kyle Kosier's replacement at the position if none of the other possiblities can do the job. It appeared that Pat McQuistan, normally a tackle, did rather well filling in for Kosier in the position with the starting O-line tonight. Joe Berger also made several key blocks during the game from the guard spot, including the 11-yard touchdown run in the first quarter.
The Cowboys now have roughly ten days to resolve the injury problems and get ready for the opener against Cleveland. While Isaiah Stanback claims he will be ready, he is still quite shaky with a dislocated shoulder and Miles Austin is out for at least three weeks with a MCL sprain. Tonight would have been a primetime for some other young receiver to step up and show what he could do and the closest person to do so was Mike Jefferson, a second-year receiver out of Montana State who had several big catches early in the game finishing with 3 receptions for 36-yards. Rookie free agent Danny Amendola had some opportunities on punt and kick returns plus a couple of receptions, but nothing that amazing either in his performance.
The defense played very well, particularly the second and third string defenses. LB Tyson Smith intercepted the first pass of the evening by Minnesota's John David Booty setting up the touchdown run and the defense only allowed one scoring drive in the first half and just a field goal in the second. The kick coverage teams did a much better job as well, only allowing one above-average return late in the game keeping the Vikings in their end of the field the majority of the time following great McBriar punts or Nick Folk kickoffs.
Folk, meanwhile, kicked two 52-yard field goals and P Matt McBriar boomed several punts over 50+ yards giving the Vikings a long field all night. I'd say the kicking game is definitely in great shape heading into the regular season.
Like the Cowboys, the Vikings sat most of their starters for this game also, with Booty playing quarterback for the first half of the game and Brooks Bollinger the second half. Running back sensation Adrian Peterson and gang never stepped onto the field, much like Romo and company.
Another positive about the game for the Cowboys was a glaring lack of penalties or turnovers. They had just 2 penalties for a mere 10-yards with no turnovers, although Mike Jefferson did fumble once after a reception but managed to recover it himself.

NFL Preseason Rundown (Fantasy Football Style) - Week 3 Games (3rd Edition)

The preseason is starting to wind down and teams have made their first cut down to 75. Week 3 of the preseason has long been considered a "dress rehearsal". This is the week of the preseason that most resembles a real game, well for a half anyway, as teams starters usually play 25 to 30 plays . As teams continue to evaluate talent as they prepare for the NFL season, fantasy football owners continue to study the 2008 Bruno Boys Fantasy Football Cheat Sheets as we prepare for the 2008 Fantasy Football season. Now because this week is probably the most important week of the preseason, for the NFL and fantasy football owners alike the Bruno Boys have decided to change up this week's Preseason Rundown. Of course it will still be fantasy-style and it will of course have the Bruno Boys flavor, but instead of only hitting on five or six players we are going to give you a recap of all 16 games in Week 3. It will be broken down into three different editions, so make sure you you get your fill by checking out all three parts.

Enjoy Part Three of Week 3's version of the Bruno Boys Preseason Rundown (fantasy-style).

Baltimore Ravens vs. St. Louis Rams

Baltimore rookie QB Joe Flacco played the entire game and was 18 for 37 passing for 152 yards and 1TD. Don't get overly excited and run out and pick-up Flacco, up until this game he was the team's third string QB. Second year man Troy Smith appears to be the front-runner for the starting job.

Marshall's Suspension Reduced to 1 game.

You think the NFL chopping Brandon Marshall's suspension from three games to one isn't a major development for the Denver Broncos?

Just look at the preseason. Marshall caught 10 of Jay Cutler's 30 completions in the preseason in fewer than five quarters of work.

Marshall is a blossoming superstar. He and Cutler could be a special tandem for years to come. Marshall was originally suspended for three games because of several legal scrapes over the past couple of years. Under the original guidelines, Marshall was supposed to serve at least two games. However, he appealed his case in New York on Tuesday. Thursday, his attorney Harvey Steinberg said Marshall will only miss one game.

That means the receiver will be out for the Broncos' season opener at Oakland on Sept. 8 on ESPN's Monday Night Football. However, he should be on the field for Denver's home opener Sept. 14 against San Diego.

2008 Fantasy Football Deep Sleeper Rankings (Part 1)

Most of the rankings, analysis and articles we do at this site pertain to the average fantasy football 10- or 12-team leagues. We debate the merits of things like Anthony Gonzalez's value as a third receiver or whether or not Marc Bulger can return to being a top-five quarterback. But, some leagues are bigger and some people like to unearth the completely hidden gems that nobody in August was ever thinking about.

We are talking about the deep sleepers, the players who either have never done anything, such as Earnest Graham prior to last season, players that were on bad teams and their talents forgotten, like Randy Moss on the Raiders, and players that are entering the season with injury or suspension concerns.

Sometimes it's not that 200-point running back that wins you the league. Sometimes it's that scrub that was buried on the depth chart in week four, only to net you 15 points in the fantasy playoffs. In a two-part series, we will take a look at players like these at each position that you need to keep your eye on heading into 2008. The players are listed in no particular order.

Holland Acquired to Help Guard Romo

Questions have risen about the left tackle position after Kyle Kosier went down with a hairline fracture in his right foot. The Cowboys front office has offered an answer: Montrae Holland. Holland has been acquired from the Denver Broncos for a fifth round pick in the 2010 draft.
The reason Denver was so willing to give up this starter from last year is a weight issue. Montrae reported to Broncos camp at 334 lbs. That was 9 lbs more than his assigned weight. As has been a theme in Dallas, this is the perfect place to offer a second chance to this former Bronco and Saint. If Montrae Holland earns a starting spot, every lineman on the Cowboys offensive line will be over 300 lbs. Kyle Kosier was the runt of the litter tipping the scales at a measly 294 lbs.
In the 2008 season Holland started every game at left guard. This is a good thing because this position is crucial to the right-handed Romo. The left guard is the first line of defense from attacking lineman and blitzing linebackers with the QB facing the opposite side. James Marten is the next Cowboy on the depth chart, but look for Holland to leapfrog the current Cowboys and hold down Kosier until his return.
