The AC Milan leadership appear to be rethinking their decision to hire Julen Lopetegui as the replacement for Stefano Pioli, and the list of candidates can once again be enlarged.

Over the weekend a number of reliable sources stated that those in charge of Milan had decided on Lopetegui being the right man to take the reins at the end of the season, after a long period of evaluations and some meetings between the parties.

The Basque coach even rejected West Ham United because he wishes to join the Rossoneri and he seemed very much up for a new challenge in Italy, but once the news emerged a petition against his hiring has reached 8,000 signatures and it seems to have rocked Milan.

Gianluca Di Marzio did a segment on Sky late last night in which he spoke about the situation linked to Lopetegui’s possible arrival, confirming that Milan are re-evaluating and putting forward some of the names that are back on the list.

“Lopetegui is the coach with whom Milan have had the most discussions and had several meetings, they also talked a lot about the future of the team,” he said (via MilanNews).

“He is the coach who went through that internal process with the foreign ownership of the club, Lopetegui was the one who was liked above all within the Rossoneri management.

“We must also say, however, that a definitive conclusion has not been reached [to hire him] and it is not certain that there will be one in the future.

“The revolt and protest of the Rossoneri fans has left its mark somewhat head and in the decisions of the Milan managers, who do not want to make a mistake in this delicate choice.
