AC Milan’s Europa League adventure was ended at the quarter-final stage last night as they lost 2-1 against Roma at the Stadio Olimpico.

After winning the first leg 1-0 at San Siro, Roma took absolute control of the tie with two early goals from Gianluca Mancini and Paulo Dybala. They went down to 10 men in the first half, but Matteo Gabbia’s goal late on was a mere consolation as the Rossoneri crashed out 3-1 on aggregate.

Below are how the Italian papers have reacted to the result…

Gazzetta dello Sport: “Roma party, Milan in hell. Giallorossi celebration, Pioli trembles. Rossoneri coach accuses the team. Fans in the Curva lecture the players.”

Corriere dello Sport: “Heroic. Europa League: De Rossi’s team is astonishing, the Olimpico sings. Legendary Roma: down to 10 they beat Milan 2-1 and fly into the semi-finals. Within 22 minutes the Giallorossi are 2-0 up. Mancini scores again, then Dybala magic. Lukaku injured, Celik sent off at the 31st. Futile late Gabbia goal.”

Tuttosport: “Mancini-Dybala: EuRoma! Ciao Milan, Pioli: end of the road. De Rossi dominated the Italian derby even down to 10 men after red card to Celik (2-1): he will face Leverkusen. Another flop, Rossoneri blasted by fans.”
