Newcastle United star Anthony Gordon has heaped praise on manager Eddie Howe.

The attacker initially struggled after his arrival from Everton in the middle of last season.

While the Magpies have not hit those heights this term, Gordon has showed his worth at club and international level, becoming a key player for Howe.

Gordon, speaking to the Overlap, said: The lads were class when I first arrived at Newcastle and they helped me settle quickly, but Eddie Howe is relentless, so the first part is harder because he's putting that much pressure on you to succeed and get you to where you need to be his demands are massive.

"Every session, if you're daydreaming for one second, he's somehow managed to see it and he's screaming your name. Eddie's culture is much harder than what it was like when I first went to the England camp, but it's got me to where I am now which is a good thing."

On his England hopes, he added: "I think versatility in a tournament is massive. The likes of Phil Foden, Marcus Rashford and Jack Grealish can play across the front line and in midfield, but I feel that I've done it a lot this season especially in big games, and I think that matters. I've played out of position in big games and done well, so I think that matters.

"Playing as a center forward or as a right-winger is out of position for me because the left is probably my main position. I've played number 10 at times, and I've proven in big games that no matter where I play, I can still perform, and having that trust from the manager and the players around me, which I think is the most important thing."
