‘I definitely expect…’: Tottenham handed boost in their pursuit of 24-year-old long-term target

Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher has been linked with a move away from the club at the end of the season and Tottenham have been mentioned as a potential destination.

A report from Football Insider claims that Tottenham have been long-term admirers of the 24-year-old midfielder and the player is likely to be on the move in the summer.

Chelsea are under financial pressure and they will need to balance the books at the end of the season. They will have to comply with the financial regulations and journalist Pete O’Rourke has revealed on Football Insider that they are likely to cash in on some of their homegrown prospects, including Gallagher.

“It’ll be the homegrown assets to go first, they’re the obvious ones who will bring in pure profit.

“You’ve got Conor Gallagher, who hasn’t signed a new contract. There’s no doubt there will be lots of interest in him, and I’m sure he’ll have his pick of clubs. He’s no closer to agreeing a new deal, even though he says he wants to stay.

Trevoh Chalobah has come back into the fold but he’s wanted elsewhere and I expect Chelsea to be open to offers. Armando Broja will probably also be moved on. His loan move to Fulham hasn’t worked out, but I expect him to go.

“They are three I definitely expect to move on.”

Gallagher is tailor-made for Tottenham

The development will certainly encourage Spurs to make their move at the end of the season. They were linked with Gallagher during the January transfer window as well. The 24-year-old midfielder could be the ideal acquisition for Tottenham in the middle of the park. They need to bring in quality central midfielder and Gallagher seems like the ideal fit for their style of play.

His pressing ability, work rate and defensive contributions could make him an asset for Ange Postecoglou next season. He is certainly good enough to play for the biggest clubs in the country and he is young enough to improve further. He could be a long-term asset for Tottenham.

The North London club are pushing for Champions League qualification and they will need a deeper squad with more quality next season. Gallagher could be tempted to join them if they manage to finish in the top four.

The boyhood Chelsea fan wants to continue at Stanford Bridge, but the decision could be out of his hands. Chelsea are under pressure to sacrifice some of their players in order to raise funds. It will be interesting to see if Tottenham can take advantage of the situation and get the deal done.
