Insider: Champions League teams 'do not want Cristiano Ronaldo'

Cristiano Ronaldo may not have many lucrative options other than signing for Al-Nassr FC of Saudi Arabia after the FIFA World Cup. 

Portuguese football expert Pedro Sepulveda has told Sky Sports News that clubs still playing in this season's UEFA Champions League competition aren't keen on landing the 37-year-old. 

"The clubs that Ronaldo would be interested to sign for are not interested in him nowadays," Sepulveda explained about the Portugal superstar who completed an exit from Premier League club Manchester United last month. "That's the truth. I think Ronaldo should think on the way he's going to end his career. We are arriving at that moment.

"Of course in his head, he can still win a Champions League. But I don't think that could happen anymore. He should rethink the way he's looking at football." 

It was reported throughout the summer months that Ronaldo wished to leave United to join a Champions League side, but no such club acquired the five-time Ballon d’Or winner before the transfer window closed. "CR7" subsequently fell out of favor with United boss Erik ten Hag and reportedly has an offer from Al-Nassr on the table that could earn him over $200 million per year.

According to Adriana Garcia of ESPN, Ronaldo has not signed with any club despite reports suggesting otherwise. 

"I have contacted some sources and it's true the offer from Al-Nassr - we are talking about a lot of money. It's insane," Sepulveda continued. "Ronaldo is not looking at the money. The money that Ronaldo earns these days in ads is much more than he earns playing football. He still thinks he can play for a team who can fight for Champions League. If he doesn't change his mind it might be difficult to decide his future. Nowadays, the teams that play to fight for the Champions League do not want Cristiano Ronaldo."

Recently, Ronaldo was spotted potentially yelling toward Portugal coach Fernando Santos about being subbed off during a World Cup match versus South Korea. Santos later benched Ronaldo for Tuesday's game against Switzerland, and ESPN's James Olley noted that replacement Goncalo Ramos notched a hat-trick in Portugal's 6-1 victory. 

Portugal next face Morocco on Saturday. Santos told reporters Ronaldo's role in his team for that fixture is "something which has to be defined."
