Inter Milan CEO Beppe Marotta opens up on a variety of topics including Romelu Lukaku and Lazar Samardzic.

The 66-year-old insisted that the Chelsea striker (currently on loan at Roma) belongs to the past.

The Nerazzurri tried to sign the Belgian star on a permanent basis last season, but the latter was simultaneously negotiating with Juventus and AC Milan.

Therefore, Inter decided to end their talks with Lukaku who eventually ended up signing for Roma.

“We have spoken on the subject several times and it is part of the past,” said Marotta while a guest on the 40th edition of ‘Sport Movies & TV – Milano International FICTS Fest’ via FcInter1908.

“We have to focus on the present, and it’s challenging. We have to honor it as best we can. Lukaku is a closed chapter.”

The Nerazzurri CEO also discussed the contractual situation of Lautaro Martinez. Many expected the club captain to pen a renewal soon.

“For Lautaro and for many players, we are undergoing negotiations that lead to prolonging their stints with Inter.

“It all comes from the sense of belonging that these guys have shown. This flatters us.

“We will do it calmly, as it is not a situation that creates problems. But today, we must be focused on tomorrow’s match and the one against Salzburg.”

Marotta also spoke about the Zhang family and their great attachment to the club.

“There is the awareness that this cycle that began in 2018 is a continuously growing movement, a very positive reference model.

“We achieved great feats, but they could even have been more because we lost what was arguably the most important event in the history of world football.

“I can say that the Zhangs love Inter as much as Inter must be grateful to them. The family has provided many millions of euros in financing over the years.

“They have a lot of passion. In us directors, they have instilled the concept of delegation and full autonomy.”

Marotta also discussed emerging Monza midfielder Andrea Colpani and Udinese star Lazar Samardzic.

The latter was on the cusp of joining the Nerazzurri in the summer. The club has reportedly rekindled its interest in his services.

“Colpani? We have excellent relations with Monza. They have several interesting players in their squad. If there are concrete matters, we will develop them later.

“Samardzic? He has been mentioned as a name but we are focused on the present. He represents the future and is not in our current plans.
