Inter Milan are reportedly aiming to sign Atletico Madrid defender Mario Hermoso on a free transfer, but the likes of West Ham and Aston Villa are also in the fray.

The 28-year-old has been plying his trade with the Colchoneros since 2019. However, the Spanish capital side has been unable to put his signature on a contract renewal.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport via FcInterNews, the versatile defender has managed to convince everyone at Inter.

This includes head coach Simone Inzaghi who had the opportunity to monitor him closely during the recent Champions League double header. Hermoso was a starter in both encounters which culminated in his team’s progression to the quarter-finals at the expense of the Italian giants.

The Real Madrid youth product is a left-footed player capable of playing on the left side of a three-man defense, or alternatively in the central role.

West Ham & Aston Villa Emerge As Competitors For Inter Milan In The Race For Mario Hermoso

This is an attribute that Inter appreciate, so they’re looking to offer the Spaniard a four or five-year contract. The source expects the proposal to include a net salary of 5 million euros per season.

Nevertheless, the source warns the Nerazzurri of competition coming from the Premier League.

The pink newspaper claims that West Ham and Aston Villa are also keeping tabs on the situation. Moreover, Saudi Pro League clubs could also enter the race.

So in the end, it could well depend on Hermoso’s personal preference.

This season, the Spain international has made 36 appearances across all competitions for Atletico Madrid. He contributed with a couple of goals and provided an assist.
