‘It Is Not Going to Be Quiet’: David Ornstein Confirms One Signing Chelsea Are Expected to Make in January

Chelsea have made it a habit of being active in every single transfer window since being acquired by Todd Boehly and the Clearlake Capital group and it doesn’t look like they have any desire to give up spending money to bring in more players into the squad. Reports suggest that they are planning to sign a new forward in January.

Chelsea Expected To Make Forward Signing In January

What Are Chelsea Planning For January?

The Athletic’s David Ornstein has reported that “it is not going to be quiet” at Stamford Bridge in the upcoming January transfer window, as the hierarchy is still in the process of building Mauricio Pochettino’s squad. The journalist adds that we can expect Chelsea to sign a new forward in the next few weeks as they aim to improve their frontline for the future.

Ornstein further claims that an agreement could be reached to sign a new forward in the winter transfer window but for him to arrive later in the summer of 2024 once the season has ended. It is further stated that everyone is aware of how goal-scoring is a problem at the club, but that it remains to be seen whether the club signs an established forward or a versatile attacker who can play in a variety of positions.

Are The Blues Going To Push For Ivan Toney?

Brentford forward Ivan Toney will see his suspension for breaching betting rules end in January, after which he can start playing in the Premier League again. However, it is added by Ornstein that the English striker is not as high on the transfer wishlist for the London heavyweights as it has been speculated by some.

However, Ornstein adds that they will continue to monitor multiple strikers for the January window before being able to identify the ideal candidate that can help improve their squad for the long-term squad. The Blues are already reported to be closing in on a winter signing in the form of Senegalese youngster Pape Diong, but they will indulge in more winter transfer activity to improve their squad for the long term.
