Lazio captain Ciro Immobile is reportedly facing a major dilemma, with his future at the club no longer certain.

The 34-year-old is the Biancocelesti’s all-time leading goalscorer, but his strikes have dried up this season, suggesting that his best days are now behind him. While the skipper still held a starting role under Maurizio Sarri, the newly-appointed Lazio manager Igor Tudor is betting on the younger Taty Castellanos, leaving Immobile frustrated with the situation.

But despite his dip in form, Il Messaggero (via Calciomercato) believes Lazio would like to maintain the veteran’s services beyond the current campaign. Nevertheless, the Euro 2020 winner would have to accept a reduced role.

As the source explains, the Aquile are betting on Castellanos for next season, expecting the Argentine to explode onto the scene after showing signs of improvement as of late. Moreover, the management will be looking to sign a new striker as well, based on Tudor’s request.

Nevertheless, Lazio would be happy to keep Immobile at Formello despite his hefty salary. The striker currently earns 5 million euros per season including bonuses, and his deal runs until 2026. However, the Italian would have to accept a backup role, where he would provide squad depth and valuable experience.

The former Juventus and Dortmund striker won the Serie A top-scorer award on four occasions in the past, but he has only managed to net six strikes this season.
