Loftus-Cheek reveals Milan made early approach after he impressed in Champions League

Most Chelsea fans would have told you that Ruben Loftus-Cheek was going to make a big impact at AC Milan.

While some were ready to see him moved on, most Chelsea supporters are huge fans of his, and certainly thought he could do damage in Serie A, where the intensity is a little lower and there’s more space on the pitch.

After 3 games, with Milan joint top of the league on 9 points, it’s hard to argue he hasn’t. His highlights from the games so far show him at his elegant best. Speaking in quotes picked up by Sempre Milan, the academy product spoke about how he had ended up making the move:

“After I played against them in the Champions League, Milan showed that they were interested in me. I wasn’t thinking about it too much, the season at Chelsea was still long, but towards the end things changed. Milan has always been a great club, after speaking with Pioli I was convinced to move here,” Loftus-Cheek explained.

“I have played in many positions in my career, in the last two years mainly in a defensive position and for me it wasn’t a natural thing,” he went on.

“I’ve always liked having the ball at my feet, having the freedom to create, to be decisive. In the last two seasons I couldn’t do that, that way of playing didn’t make me happy. Now, however, I play in a position where I have more freedom, so I feel good.”

As sad as we were to see him go, it’s great to see him in a place where he can play every week. We hope his fitness holds up and that he ends up with a Serie A title, just like Fikayo Tomori before him.
