In the past 12 months, AC Milan have scoured the market for a striker to replace Oliver Giroud when the time is right, and given he is set to depart this summer, they will need to find one soon. However, they may lose the battle for one of their targets to a Serie A rival, a new report has claimed.

This season, the question has been, When will Milan sign a striker? Not Will Milan sign a new striker? With fans and the club recognising the need for investment in their next number nine. Questions have remained, with Milan constantly evaluating the market for the best value-for-money striker that can produce the numbers that the club needs to progress.

There has been a favoured trio for the majority of the past few months: Viktor Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko are admired, but Joshua Zirkzee is the one who truly takes the club’s eye. A name who used to be amongst those three but has now slightly fallen in favouritism is Jonathan David. Nevertheless, he could still be moving to Serie A.

A report from Corriere dello Sport (via MilanNews) has claimed that in the past few days, the Canadian forward and his entourage met with Napoli’s soon-to-be sporting director, Giovanni Manna, about the figures required for him to join the club.
