Paris Saint-Germain will attempt to bolster its midfield this summer, and various players are linked to the capital club. One of the prominent targets for the Ligue 1 side is Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimarães, and there’s a recent development on this file.

The Parisians will have money to spend this summer with the reported departure of Kylian Mbappé, and the team could splurge on a top-end midfielder to anchor that position.

Over the last few months, Guimarães has been one of the names constantly linked to PSG. Journalist Ben Jacobs provided the latest on the Brazilian’s future for 90min and notes that Newcastle would certainly prefer to retain Guimarães, but if a £100 million release clause is activated, they’ll lose control of the situation.

Additionally, Jacobs reveals that when Guimarães extended his contract for five years at St James’ Park, it was unusual for Newcastle to include a release clause.

However, there’s also an understanding that he can negotiate with UEFA Champions League clubs, and offers exceeding £80 million will be considered. They prefer not to sell multiple players to meet financial needs, especially since some are difficult to replace.

The Telegraph recently reported that Guimarães made a bid for a new property in an exclusive neighborhood in Northumberland—a few miles from Newcastle-upon-Tyne, where he intends to make his new family home. As a result, it will be interesting to see if any move for the standout happens this summer.
