AC Mila hero Mauro Tassotti has dismissed claims coach Stefano Pioli's future will hinge on tonight's result at AS Roma.

Milan go into the second-leg of their Europa League quarterfinal trailing 1-0.

Tassotti told MilanNews.it: "Pioli has been working at Milan since 2019, therefore the club knows his qualities perfectly. This is to say that it cannot all depend on one match, which can go well or badly for various reasons, then certainly a bad defeat or a great victory can influence the judgment.

"But essentially the decision has already been made."

He also said: "Until two games ago it looked like a Milan on the rise, it was coming off a series of consecutive victories and it seemed like the team was doing well. The match against Sassuolo is a test that must be considered up to a certain point, given that Pioli rightly rested many players, after all the Champions League place is secure.

"Let's say, however, that making a good impression in Sassuolo would have helped emotionally, because after a so-so performance against Roma the risk is to see things negatively."
