Jadon Sancho Set to Join Former Club Borussia Dortmund on Loan

Manchester United Agree to Loan Out Jadon Sancho

The report of a “breakthrough” in negotiations between United and Dortmund’s representatives now means that the loan agreement can be finalised and according to BILD, the “mega deal will go through”.

The parties still need to clarify the finer details, such as the total loan fee, however this not expected to be an area of concern between the two clubs. The agreement will see the young prospect join the Bundesliga side until the end of the season.

Sanchp will travel to their Marbella training camp tomorrow to undergo medical assessments before joining his new teammates in their winter break sessions. It is understood that United will pay a sizable portion of the player’s more than £200,000 wages, although the exact percentage has not been confirmed.

During his first spell at Dortmund, the then-teenager contributed with an incredible 50 goals and 64 assists in 137 games. This success propelled him to international stardom and eventually a £73 million move to the Premier League.

Manchester United Forces Out £73 Million Exile Winger

Sancho has been exiled from the Red Devils’ first-team squad since September 2023, following a dispute with manager Erik ten Hag. The Dutch manager appeared to publicly criticise the 23-year-old’s commitment and performance level in training during a press conference following his side’s 3-1 loss to Arsenal in September.

Following media coverage of the comments, the England international said in a now-deleted tweet: ”

Please don’t believe everything you read! I will not allow people saying things that is completely untrue. I have conducted myself in training very well this week.I believe there are other reasons for this matter that I won’t go into, I have been a scapegoat for a long time which isn’t fair! All I want to do is play football with a smile on my face and contribute to my team.

“I respect all decisions that are made by the coaching staff, I play with fantastic players and (am) grateful to do so which I know every week is a challenge. I will continue to fight for this badge no matter what!”

While Sancho deleted the tweet, he refused to apologise to his head coach and as a result, he was banished from the squad. Manchester United released a statement days later to confirm that the winger would “remain on a personal training programme away from the first-team group, pending resolution of a squad discipline issue.”

Loan Deal a Win for Borussia Dortmund & Positive for Manchester United

The loan deal, which is understood to have come after significant financial concessions from the club, comes as a potential positive for all parties. Every week the English forward was away from the pitch, his value as an asset shrunk, and while Ten Hag is in charge, it seems more likely that Sancho would leave permanently rather than rejoin the first team.

Dortmund on the other hand are struggling this season and have only managed to climb to fifth in the Bundesliga. They are 15 points shy of league leaders Bayer Leverkusen and 11 from 10-time-consecutive champions Bayern Munich. This deal reunites the club with a familiar player proven to fit their playstyle and eager to prove his doubters, and presumably his club’s manager wrong.
