Tottenham have held internal discussions to sign Atalanta midfielder Ederson.

Tottenham Hotspur are gearing up for the summer transfer window, with the club actively scouting potential signings to bolster their squad under manager Ange Postecoglou.

One player who has emerged as a prime target for Spurs is Atalanta midfielder Ederson.

The Brazilian midfielder was previously linked with Tottenham during the January transfer window, with discussions reportedly ongoing regarding a potential move in the upcoming summer.

Fabio Paratici reportedly himself has recommended Spurs to sign the talented midfielder.

According to Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge, Ederson’s name has resurfaced as a top priority for Tottenham, as they seek to address their midfield options.

The central midfielder’s contract with Atalanta runs until June 2026, but the Italian club may be open to his departure at the end of the season.

Bridge claims Tottenham have held discussions about Ederson

Bridge highlights Tottenham’s interest in signing a genuine defensive midfielder, specifically a no. 6, to provide defensive stability to their midfield.

He notes that while Spurs have midfielders like Bissouma who excel in pushing forward, there is a need for a player who can offer solidity in defense.

He told GiveMeSport:

“Ederson’s a name who’s been in discussion at Tottenham. I think it’s an area where Spurs will consider adding a genuine No. 6.

You see some of their midfielders pushing forward a lot more. They’ve got Bissouma, who is quite inconsistent at times.

He’s a very, very, very good player on his day, but then maybe he has the odd injury and the odd sending-off, and it takes him quite a while to adapt.

Of course, you’ve got Bentancur’s injury situation. He’s back but hasn’t hit the heights we know he can do yet.

So, that area is something they will look at again in the summer.”

Ederson, 24, has been a consistent performer for Atalanta this season, featuring in 27 Serie A matches and contributing 5 goals and an assist to his team’s cause.

His impressive performances have also attracted interest from other top clubs, including Juventus, Newcastle, and Manchester United, adding to the competition Spurs may face in securing his signature.

As Tottenham look to reinforce their squad for the challenges ahead, the pursuit of Ederson signals their intent to strengthen their midfield options and address key areas of improvement ahead of the new campaign.
