With less than 18 months left on his contract with Lazio, there are question marks surrounding the future of Matias Vecino.

The 32-year-old Uruguayan midfielder has been a trusted member of Maurizio Sarri’s squad since his arrival on a free transfer back in August 2022, but now he’ll have to prove himself again in the Italian capital following the arrival of new head coach Igor Tudor.

Vecino was briefly frozen out of the Lazio squad this season after coming to blows with Sarri, but he has continued to feature regularly since returning to action. This term, he’s seen 1342 minutes of action across 30 matches, scoring four goals.

As reported by Corriere dello Sport (via LazioNews24), Lazio will make a decision regarding Vecino’s future in the summer, seemingly having three options on the table.

The first is to set up a new contract with the Uruguayan midfielder, extending his stay in the capital, whilst the second would be to try and find a buyer. Another option is for Vecino to decide to honour his contract and stay until June 2025.
