How often has a manager’s job become even more at risk after progressing to a cup final?

That’s the case with Erik ten Hag today after Manchester United booked their spot in the FA Cup final last night.

A convincing three-quarters of the clash was cancelled out after Coventry City produced an emphatic turnaround to level the tie to 3-3 in regular time, despite United holding a three-goal advantage until the 71st minute.

The Championship outfit scored a winning goal in the dying seconds of extra-time until VAR intervened and controversially chalked it off, meaning the match would be decided by a penalty shootout, which United went on to win.

Post-match, Jamie Carragher revealed that he is certain Ten Hag will be relieved of his duties in the coming months following yet another dismal showing.

“I think that result has just cost Erik ten Hag his job,” he said on Sky Sports, as cited by the Metro. “I don’t see how he stays. I really don’t.

“It’s just poor performance after poor performance. That dressing room is probably the most embarrassed dressing room from a team that has just won a big game.

“You can’t even celebrate that win. Maybe they can somehow win the final but I just don’t see any progress. This is somebody’s job we’re talking about, but I just don’t see how they [the owners] can look at the situation and be positive about it. I don’t see it.”
