Venus and Serena Williams Have Better Things To Do

Blame it on their father, blame it on endorsements, blame it on ESPN, but Venus and Serena are fully aware of what they are capable of, and have no problem turning it on and off at their pleasure.

This is bunk. Venus is not a good clay court player, and she was beaten by someone who is more comfortable on the surface (AND who has beaten Venus before). Venus tried and was visibly annoyed with herself. Serena lost to a player who took her to three sets the last time they played earlier this year. Srebotnik, the woman who upset Serena, had a very clear strategy - mix up the pace and spins to not allow Serena to get into a groove and move the ball around the court by taking it earlier that usual.

The author of the blog doesn't know what he's talking about - rather than reacting to sports headlines, he should dig deeper into the sport and how it's played. Srebotnik and Penetta (the woman who beat Venus) basically played updated versions of the game Martina Hingis used to employed against the Sisters Williams, except they both served better and hit with even more pace.

Or, you could look back at their championships over the years and realize that a. They are still in their playing prime, and b. one game or a year of games doesn't make them the worst players on tour.
