Emma Navarro vs Paula Badosa

Emma Navarro is the 21st seed and will be looking to progress. The American has only made a quarter-final in the build-up, and that was in a WTA 125 event. Paula Badosa eased through her first round match. The Spaniard did not get to the second round in Madrid, so is already ahead. This should be a straightforward match for the seed

Sorana Cirstea vs Brenda Fruhvirtova

Head to Head: First Meeting

Sorana Cirstea is the 28th seed here in Rome. In Madrid the Romanian was 27th seed and lost to the eventual champion in the third round. Cirstea will want to improve her clay form, and this could be the best chance to date. Brenda Fruhvirtova battled through the first round against American Taylor Townsend to get here. Another tough match is on the cards here.

Prediction: Cirstea in 3.

Camila Osorio vs Madison Keys

Head to Head: First Meeting

Camila Osorio needed the distance in her first round match. The Columbian didn’t qualify for Madrid, but made the semi final of the WTA 125 event in Spain last week. Madison Keys is the 18th seed and made the semi final in Madrid, so will be in confident form. This will be a good match, but should be in favour of the American.

Prediction: Keys in 3.

Iga Swiatek vs Bernarda Pera

Head to Head: 2:0

Iga Swiatek is the top seed and won Madrid. The Pole is on a very good run at the moment, but anything can happen in tennis. Swiatek already has won 3 titles this season at the 1000 level, so this shows how good she is. Bernarda Pera qualified and then beat fellow American in the first round. With the form that Swiatek is in, it is very unlikely that Pera will get beyond the top seed here.

Prediction: Swiatek in 2.
