Last month, Texas back-up QB John Chiles was a suspect in an "assault-by-conduct" incident in Austin. The University of Texas' student newspaper, the Daily Texan, reported this is their blog. The athletic department pounced on the paper, threatening the staff and calling the paper "untruthful." The department said now other news companies "realize how you do business now." It seemed to me that they were simply reporting that Chiles was a suspect, which was confirmed by the Austin Police Department. Unfortunately, reporters constantly seem to have to put up with this belittlement.

After White Sox pitcher Mark Buehrle gave up seven runs in 5.2 innings on Tuesday night, he decided to take teammate Juan Uribe's bat and unload on a space heater in the dugout five times. That wasn't even the best part of the incident. Manager Ozzie Guillen, known for being a freak, was noticeably upset about the beating the space heater took. This has got to be one of the quotes of the year: "It's bull[bleep]. What Mark did to that space heater is [bleep]ing bull[bleep]. That space heater is the [bleep] of Mark Buehrle. Two weeks ago, it was the greatest [bleep]ing space heater in the [bleep]ing history of space [bleep]ing heaters. Now it's horse[bleep]. I'm tired of it. [Bleep]. [Bleep]. [Bleep]......[bleep]."

Bob Huggins, who recently signed an 11-year contract to coach for West Virginia basketball, was taken to the hospital after tripping on an airport tarmac and hitting his head on the pavement on Thursday in Charlotte, North Carolina. Huggins was checking his cell phone messages when he tripped over a cone on the tarmac and tumbled. Yet another lesson to people more in tune with their cell phones than the world around them.

Kentucky basketball coach Billy Gillispie sparked debate this week on Yardbarker and websites all over the place after he offered a scholarship to an 8th grader. Here's a great article that points out that Gillispie isn't the only one that has been courting 8th graders throughout the years. It is more prevalent than you think. People actually make lists out there of the top 6th graders in the nation. UCLA's Ben Howland and USC's Tim Floyd are among some of the coaches that have offered scholarships to 8th graders.

South Oak Cliff High senior center J'Mison Morgan, one of the nation's top recruits, has reportedly asked out of his letter of intent to Louisiana State and is considering transferring to UCLA next season. The 6-foot-11, 255-pound Morgan is the No.4 center prospect in the nation according to Rivals.com. Looks like UCLA won't miss Kevin Love that much after all.

Former Georgia Tech star QB Joe Hamilton resigned on Wednesday as Georgia Tech's assistant athletic director of player personnel a day after he was charge with marijuana possession, driving while intoxicated, and hit-and-run. Hamilton had just been hired last week as the AD. Way to screw it up Joe. You could have been athletic director- now all you will be remembered for is being a star college QB who everyone admires...what a waste.

This season, NFL general managers took a hard look at the history of NFL drafts to determine who to select in the first round. Wide receivers were the riskiest Round 1 pick, so none of the 32 teams picked a receiver in the first round. Not even the 49ers, who passed up Cal's DeSean Jackson after being last in several offensive categories last season. If the draft pans out a success for these teams, it may mark a shift in who is selected in upcoming NFL drafts.

Great article by the L.A. Times about USC head coach Pete Carroll. Carroll apparently rolls with an ex-gang member in South L.A. neighborhoods, trying to change the environment. And to make sure it's even more dangerous, he goes at midnight. I could make a lot of jokes about this, but after reading this article, I really respect the man. Five years ago, Carroll founded A Better L.A., dedicated to ending inner-city violence. It didn't gain much traction, and he was told the only way to really learn about the ghettos is to experience them for himself. So he did. "I don't go to judge . . . just to show that someone cares," Carroll said. "Just go to give people here a little hope. . . . Get folks to step back and think. Hopefully, get them to change."

After allowing 10 runs in the sixth inning on Friday against No. 1 Miami, No. 2 Florida State bounced back on Saturday, beating the Hurricanes, 9-5. FSU's Jason Stidham led the Seminoles, going 4-for-5 with three RBIs. Miami's junior second baseman Jemile Weeks, after collecting three hits on Friday, stole his 14th base of the season. He has only been caught stealing once.

No.1 Miami scored 10 runs in the sixth inning against No. 3 Florida State on Friday, winning the first game of the series, 11-4. Five players had multiple hits for the Hurricanes. But Miami's pitching stepped up as well, striking out 13 Seminoles (the most by them this season) and limiting them to one hit in the final four innings. FSU had a 4-0 lead before the onslaught.
