Congratulations to Mario Chalmers and the Kansas Jayhawks for sticking around long enough so that Memphis could tank some free throws and blow the game. I'm not sure what to say about former Kansas coach Roy Williams, who was ousted in the Final Four but still managed to show up and support his former team. The North Carolina coach was photographed wearing a Kansas Jayhawks sticker. I do know what to say about Mario Chalmers, though: That dude is a pimp on the hardwood. Ice cold in the clutch.
Live-blogging a radio show is a great idea. What? You think I'm being sarcastic? Seriously, though, reading a "live blog" of a radio show sounds like a terrible way to spend the day. Even if it does feature Pacman Jones talking about cops, strip clubs and Jerry Jones.
Was widespread blogger coverage of the "Berman videos" responsible for Boomer being booted from this year's ESPN coverage of The Masters? Sports By Brooks thinks so.
The New York Post today reported that "Chris Berman will not be involved whatsoever in ESPN's early-round Masters coverage this year."
#2 Tennessee defeated #1 Memphis, ending what had been a perfect season for the Tigers. But you already knew that. What you might not have known, though, is that Tennessee coach Bruce Pearl copped a cheap feel from Erin Andrews during their halftime interview. Video available.
"What they did in Memphis is beyond comprehension. There should be a trade committee that can scratch all trades that make no sense. I just wish I had been on a trade committee that oversees NBA trades. I'd like to elect myself to that committee. I would have voted no to the L.A. trade."
As a Grizzlies fan, I was hoping management would move Gasol and build for the future around a strong, young nucleus ( Rudy Gay, Mike Conley, Kyle Lowry). But I didn't think for a minute that Kwame Brown would be the answer. Nor did I think more youth (two future first-round draft picks) would be the right move. They need a formidable big man, but instead they got a bag full of question marks.
Shawn Marion and his expiring contract for a Hall of Fame center and his expiring knees? Shaq and his peoples have reportedly been told that he should prepare himself for a trade. Talks are "serious and ongoing" but nothing is a done deal. Suns PG Marcus Banks has been mentioned alongside Marion, and the Dallas Mavericks are also reportedly a possibility for Miami's man in the middle.
"As the general of this squad, I wouldn't deserve to be an All-Star," O'Neal said Friday evening. "And if they gave me the spot, I wouldn't take it, because I don't want to be given anything . . . Right now, I'm just concentrating on being 1,000 percent. I haven't been 1,000 percent in four or five years. I've been given orders to get 1,000 percent healthy."
The death of Heath Ledger came as a surprise to many, but not apparently to grizzled acting veteran, Jack Nicholson. Jack had this to say: "I warned him."
The moral of the story? Always listen to Jack Nicholson (except when it comes to being a Lakers fan; go Grizzlies). Nicholson's comment came on the heels of information that police found a rolled-up $20 bill near Ledger's body.
"A Big Ten football officiating team that came under scrutiny for its performance in two conference games last month was led by a crew chief with a history of bankruptcy, casino gambling, child abuse and allegations of sexual harassment..."
