All we kept hearing for the last three years was infield players and bull pen pitchers here in the city of Brotherly Love. Those needs were addressed by either through free agency, trades and with dumb luck. We have brought in from first to third base a group of talent that is not just slug percenatges, but defensive players as well. Two of which are back to back MVPs and possibly a third in the waiting. As for home plate we have an every day player in Ruiz that is admiralbe at best, but with a back up thats 35 years old and knocking around other teams pichers like he's a life long Major League ball player in Coste. The outfield is set with Pat the Bat in left,
Shane Victorino in center, and
Geoff Jenkins in right who when he is healthy might be replaced with
Jayson Werth. The back of the bull pen is soild with guys named Romero, Gordon, Durbin, and Lidge. So now phillies fans it is time to bring in the final piece to solidify this team. We have an Ace every fifth start. Why not bring in a second? Lets go for the ring this year and make an end all trade for at least this season and if we win then maybe a couple more.
Lots of rumors going around about the Mariners and Phils talking about trading for Eric Bedard. The 4- 4 pitcher has an Era of 4.26 with 54 strike outs and wants out if Seattle gets some goods in return. I like this trade and it would be a real contender in line for the phils winning the championship. The other two maybe trades are with the Toronto BlueJays for A.J. Burnett which will cost the Phils 11 million a season for his services and the only way we'll see him in red and white is if Toronto is out of the race according to sorces in Toronto's organization. The Last and maybe about 70% chance is Greg Maddox, who is 3-4 record and a 3.48 Era with 42 strikeouts. To get him we would not have to mortgage our team but I don't know if we need anouther
Jamie Moyer unless he can be as productive as Moyer has been for us. Also Maddox said he will waive his no trade clause if it's with a National league team which again helps us out in that department.
So what do we give up to get any of these starters to lead us to our second title and breaking "Billy" Penn's curse? In the pitching department it's between J.A. Happ,
Ryan Madson,
Francisco Rosario, Mike Zagurski, and the one up and comer all teams want Carlos Carasco, ranked number 41 on baseballs premeir rookies. Infielders is a shorter list.
Eric Bruntlett,
Brad Harman, and
Oscar Robles. If none of those gets it done how about a couple of outfielders to sweeten the deal, they are T.J. Bohn,
So Taguchi,
Jayson Werth, and
Geoff Jenkins. Now I'm now GM but I think Pitchers
Ryan Madson, Carlos Carsco, and yes Phillies fans
Jayson Werth with a pick or two could get Bedard or Burnett and not as much for Maddox. So now that I've given you my prospective on the team for a final puzzle piece let me know what you think or who you think they should get and what they should give up as well. Look forward to reading your comments!!!
