The 2008 contest is over, and the champion is California native Greg Long. The purse of $75k was awarded to him, but this year came with a twist. When out in the water, the guys in the final heat agreed to split the winnings, no matter who pulled it off. So Long took $30k for his 40+ ft wave.

World class skier/partier Bode Miller took the Lauberhorn Downhill title this weekend, his 27th World Cup win.

The surfing community witnessed another record payday as Bede Durbidge captured the title at the Billabong Pipeline Mastes.

The 24 year old Aussie takes home the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing Title with this win at Oahu's North Shore, the combo putting $75K in Durbidge's bank account.

Only in Hawaii will we find locals embrassing 12 inches of rain in 4 hours.
