iBall "All-Beast" honors : Candace Parker

It was a fine debut for Candace Parker and the WNBA. Candace Parker and the LA Sparks played the spoiler to the Phoenix Mercury. The Mercury was celebrating the first basketball championship for the Phoenix organization. That's right fella's. The ladies got one before the Suns. Candace Parker set a debut scoring record, by shooting a 62% from the floor (with a bum shoulder), with 34 point. Breaking, the 1997 scoring record set by Cynthia Cooper who had 25.

The kid was just shy 2 assist, from having the trip'dub. 34 point, 12 boards, and 8 assist. Had she done that, she would have joined Oscar Robertson. The only NBA rookie to debut with a triple-double.

Overall, I thought it was a very competitive game. I also learned why there was so much hype about 6'4" with, handles. She had at least three nasty crossovers, that made me grab my ankles, as I sat there watching on the couch. OUCH! I suspect there will be a lot of these posted on YOUTUBE, soon.

I know there's still two more games to be played this weekend. But, the youngsta get's my iBall "All-Beast" award for the opening weekend.

Honorable mention has to go to the other CP on the floor. Cappie Pondexter. Cappie stepped off the plane, on to the court, and dropped 32 points on the Sparks. She split's the "Troopa " (no excuses) award, with yardbarkers very own Diana "friggin" Taurasi. DT was battling a stomach virus. She still managed to put up 24 point. Most of them came in the second half, I might add. Let see, a rested Cappie Pondexter and a hydrated, healthy Diana Taursi. I think the outcome might have been different.

Get Well Soon, Diana

It was a great game! Even better in person! People were saying the 'twin towers' were going to kick Phx to the curb badly. But it just did not happen. They were neck in neck all the way up to the last 3 minutes of the game. I am telling you if everyone had been healthy, the Mercury would have won that game. Sure LA played great but...... if they (parker and leslie) were THAT fab, they would have run away with that game instead of having to earn every point they got in that game. They were 4 points away from losing... ;)

If Parker and Leslie were that fab, as you put it, they would have run away with the game?? I am a Sparks fan, but you don't sound like much of a Mercury fan yourself. Doesn't seem like you think much of your duo of Diana and Cappie.

Considering, Cappie just getting in from Turkey and Dee ailing with flu-like symptoms. The Mercury should be very encouraged by their performance. I think very highly of any player that can put on their hard hat ,and get to work under those conditions. Making no excuses "Troopa's". By most standards, both Dee and Cappie kicked A$$.

if i were the sparks, i'd be more worried that the mercury hung 94 points on them with dee just stepping out of the hospital and cappie just stepping off a plane....

the kid earned her iBall honor this week. she had a helluva game! more coming soon ;)

word. Cappie rules. ;)
