Davis & Roach Jr. Make Weight For Lightweight Showdown
Joe Camporeale-Imagn Images

Gervonta Davis and Lamont Roach Jr. made weight ahead of their lightweight clash this weekend.

Davis is looking to continue his undefeated record, which currently stands at 30-0. He has 28 knockouts to his name, having stopped Frank Martin in his last fight to retain his WBA Lightweight Title. Davis is expected to retire this year, following his announcement in the build-up for this fight, as attention has turned towards who we could face after Roach.

He has been linked with fights against Shakur Stevenson, Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney. But he must not overlook Roach, who is also a champion at 130 pounds. Roach has the WBA belt, which he acquired after defeating Hector Garcia. Roach knows a win over Davis gives him the choice of either defending his WBA title at 130 or 135 since he cannot do both. Although Roach may be a massive underdog, he knows that the pressure is on Davis, who is expected to win. The two fighters made weight, Tank was 1133.8 pounds, while Roach was 135. They were confident about their chances of winning.

Predictions

“I think Lamont Roach is a terrific fighter, he might be a little over his head with Gervonta Davis. Gervonta Davis is, I mean, to say the least. He’s a beast. He really is. He’s [Gervonta Davis] a tremendous fighter. He’s a dedicated fighter when it comes to training and fighting and making sure that he’s in optimal conditions when he steps inside that squared circle. It’s gonna be a tough night for Roach, but you can never count him out,” Oscar De La Hoya said

“I mean, like, he’s [Tank is] a bad man. He can fight. He’s tough. I know we had our back and forth or whatever, but at the end of the day, if we talk about just boxing, hey, absolutely. So I don’t know why everybody’s kind of sleeping on Lamont, but he has a decorated amateur career too. He’s a very sturdy kid. He’s very skilled. Tank is Tank. And when I say Tank is Tank, I mean like he’s a bad man. He can fight. He’s tough,” Claressa Shields

“This dude looks like a total fraud. Put him in the ring with someone that can punch back. This is the Tank Protection Program. This has been going along for a long time, people. Bringing fighters up from a lower weight class to get in there with Tank. Tank looks spectacular, but it’s a cover-up,” Tim Bradley
