Denys Berinchyk vs Keyshawn Davis will take place on Friday, February 14, for the WBO lightweight world title. The fight takes place at Madison Square Garden Theater, New York, and will be shown on ESPN+.
Davis has handled business in style since he turned professional following his silver medallist at the 2020 Olympics. In his last fight, he dismantled and stopped the tough Argentine fighter Gustavo Lemos. This impressive victory followed up a dominating win over Miguel Madueno.
Berinchyk is the current champion and will pose Davis problems. The Ukrainian won the vacant title against Emanuel Navarrete. He works well in between his opponent’s throwing, which makes him difficult to predict. Davis will need to be defensively solid in this fight.
Despite Davis being the challenger, he looks set to enter the ring as a strong favourite with most betting sites having him priced up at around -600 to win the WBO lightweight strap. Berinchyk is undefeated and cannot be taken lightly as the current champion, but it is a testament to how highly regarded Davis is – that his opponent will enter fight night as around a +400 outsider, depending on where you look.
Davis recently expressed his excitement about his upcoming fight: “I’m very excited. Madison Square Garden. New York City, that’s my second home. I have family out there, so I’m ready to turn up for them. Madison Square Garden is legendary. And now that I’m fighting for my first world title there, it means even more.”
“I’ve never fought his style of boxing as a professional. It’s something new to me in professional boxing. But, if you liked my last fight, you’ll be in for the same treat, a magnificent performance, a hell of a showdown, and something you can’t miss,” said Davis about his upcoming fight.
Talking about his mindset, the 25-year-old said: “I feel super strong. I feel motivated. I feel locked in. Nothing can steer me away from my goal of becoming a world champion on February 14. I feel great, and I’m ready to put on a show.”
Davis would not be drawn on looking past Berinchyk and said: “I can only think about my world title. But depending on how crazy I knock Berinchyk out, I’m going to be one of those big names that people are going to want to get in the ring with. I’d be putting myself down if I talk about fighting ‘big names’ because I can become one of those big names on February 14.”
