Top Rank Boxing have announced that unbeaten big-punching heavyweight prospect Richard Torrez Jr. (9-0, 9 KOs) will fight fellow undefeated fighter Brandon Moore (14-0, 8 KOs) on the May 18 Top Rank Boxing card at Pechanga Arena San Diego LIVE on ESPN. The card will be headlined by Emanuel “Vaquero” Navarrete, who will take on Denys Berinchyk, with San Diego native Giovani Santillan fighting Brian Norman Jr. in an intriguing undercard clash. In preparation for Torrez appearing on the card, Bob Arum has spoken about the latest addition to the May 18 card.
Heavy-handed heavyweight prospect Torrez recently stopped Donald Haynesworth in the first round of their clash and will return to the ring quickly in this bout against Moore. The U.S. Olympic silver medalist will be looking to maintain his 100% win and KO ratio against the unbeaten Moore, who is an impressive boxer-puncher who has won both contests since joining with Top Rank.
The eight-round opener between the two unbeaten heavyweights will be a part of a stacked card headlined by the vacant WBO lightweight world title showdown between “Vaquero” and Berinchyk.
Speaking about the Tulare native, Bob Arum said: “Richard Torrez Jr. is one of the most explosive and powerful young heavyweights I’ve seen, and he’s in for a big test against Brandon Moore.” He continued: “These are two unbeaten, skilled big men and a great addition to an already loaded card at Pechanga Arena San Diego.”
This is going to be an intriguing clash between two promising heavyweights who have their eyes set on progression. Torrez has shown a brilliant instinct to finish fights, and it will be fascinating to see how he deals with his first undefeated fighter.
