Matchroom Boxing continues to blaze a trail, signing many exciting talents, with Nishant Dev and Omari Jones joining in recent months. The promotional giant has now unveiled its latest recruit, rising star, Leo Atang, who has signed a multi-fight deal.
The signing of Leo Atang again shows the continued commitment of Matchroom to strengthen their stable. Atang is one of the hottest sought-after prospects in the UK. He enjoyed an impressive amateur career, which included becoming a national champion five times.
Atang also won the World Boxing Under-19 world championships in 2024, comprehensively beating Lee Geon Hui in the first round of their super-heavyweight final. The 18-year-old could have stayed amateur and made a run for gold in LA at the 2028 Olympics.
Atang will be trained by Ashley Martin at the Legions Amateur Boxing Club and managed by Sunny Edwards as he embarks on his professional journey.
Atang controls the distance well in his fights, moving his feet and staying behind his jab. While working off his jab, he looks to throw the right hand, which has served him well throughout his time in the amateurs. Leo has sparred with several experienced heavyweights and has sparred with Pat Brown and Delicious Orie who both recently made their professional debut.
“It’s a dream come true to sign with Matchroom,” said Leo Atang. “My team and I have had many good conversations leading to me turning pro. But I knew this one just felt right from the start. It’s what I always hoped for.
“We put the work in and we put the hours in. I live the life. My mentality is – push myself the absolute limit and leave no stone unturned. I’m fit, I’m strong and I’ll be ready to go with anyone tomorrow.
“I’ve got what it takes to go to the top of this sport. The future is here.”
Matchroom Sport Chairman Hearn also reacted to the signing and expressed his belief in Atang: “Leo possesses all of the attributes to make it to the very top and we can’t wait to get this journey underway,” said Hearn.
“Naturally there was a lot of interest in landing the signature of one of the very best prospects in Britain, and we’re delighted that Leo and his team have chosen us to guide his career.”
