McNeese State will have a new head basketball coach for next season after Will Wade agreed to take the NC State job.
Wade agreed to take the job before the 2025 NCAA Tournament started but that didn't stop his team from playing hard. McNeese State upset Clemson in the first round of the tournament before falling to Purdue in the second round.
He was emotional in the locker room after the second-round loss since he knew it was his last game coaching that group of kids.
While Wade won't return, McNeese State student manager Amir Khan's future is still unclear. He went viral during the tournament and even became the first manager to sign an NIL deal.
A lot of people expect Khan to follow Wade to NC State but he's still unsure of what his future holds.
"Yeah so, you know, I just got home and I haven't really focused on the future too much," Khan said on KFC Radio. "Definitely going to take a few weeks to figure out everything, consider all my options, and see where we go from there."
He called the reports of him 100% going to NC State "a bit premature" later in the interview. He's still open to following Wade to NC State but will take his time and make the best decision for himself.
Wade was the head coach at McNeese for the last two seasons and got the program to the NCAA Tournament in both seasons. Before that, he coached at LSU, VCU, and Chattanooga.
He has a 246-105 overall record in 11 seasons as a head coach.
NC State finished this season with a 12-19 record after back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances. Kevin Keatts had been the head coach of the program for eight seasons before the school parted ways with him.
