At the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on Friday, November 15, Mike Tyson (50-6, 44 KOs) will return after 19 years in retirement to face Jake Paul (10-1, 7 KOs) in the heavyweight main event of a Most Valuable Promotions card, which will stream live across the globe on Netflix and be promoted by Most Valuable Promotions. The main event looks sure to provide many layers of intrigue, and Big Fight Weekend wanted to look at Tyson’s corner to see who will be supporting the 58-year-old on fight night, and that man is Rafael Cordeiro.
58-year-old Tyson is stepping back into the ring after 19 years, taking on Jake “The Problem Child” Paul. This fight has drawn criticism from the boxing world and beyond, but as fight night draws closer, the intrigue for many is building.
Many have marvelled and spoken about the brief social media videos showing Tyson in training. “Iron Mike” has worked with several legendary trainers, including Cus D’Amato. For his return to the ring, he will work with MMA coach and former mixed martial artist Rafael Cordeiro.
The Brazilian trainer was a three-time Brazilian Muay Thai champion, and lightweight champion at the International Vale Tudo Championship. He stopped competing in 1999 and started his coaching journey, starting at Chute Boxe before opening his own gym, Kings MMA in California.
Rafael Cordeiro has trained some of the greatest MMA fighters of all time. The most notable fighter he’s trained is the ex-UFC middleweight king Anderson Silva, who has previously fought Paul. The Brazilian has also trained other UFC champions, including Rafel dos Anjos and Cris Cyborg.
He has also worked with Kelvin Gastelum and been in the corner for “Iron Mike” for his exhibition fight against Roy Jones Jr. in 2020.
