On Thursday afternoon, PPV.com released the price to view the Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (61-2-2, 39 KOs) vs. Edgar Berlanga (22-0, 17 KOs) PPV on their platform. The price is a whopping $89.99, which matches the cost of the last Canelo fight in May against Jaime Munguia. Although the New York portion of the two-city press tour didn’t produce any fireworks, the Beverly Hills stop did, which likely led to placing the price point for the event at $89.99.
This event at that price with the lesser-known Berlanga will test how strong Canelo’s drawing power is at this point in his career. With piracy being at an all-time high and the economy being at the rate that it is, justifying purchasing PPVs is becoming more and more of a conversation that you would think have promoters reevaluate the current model, but instead, it appears the cost for the events are regularly hitting just under the hundred-dollar price point. Ultimately, it’s you, the consumer, who has to decide whether to pass or buy Canelo vs. Berlanga.
If you do purchase the event on September 14, PPV.com is a platform that doesn’t require a subscription and also features a live chat in which you can interact with the legendary hall of famer Jim Lampley, longtime boxing writer Lance Pugmire and other special guests.
