Shakur Stevenson Accuses Floyd Schofield of Clout Chasing

Shakur Stevenson (22-0, 10 KOs) believes that Floyd Schofield (18-0, 12 KOs) is using his name for clout.

Matchroom boss Eddie Hearn , recently confirmed that an offer was made to Schofield to face Stevenson in the upcoming Riyadh Season card. Stevenson , who is the current WBC lightweight champion, was scheduled to face his mandatory challenger William Zepeda. However, Zepeda had to pull out of the fight after suffering a hand injury against Tevin Farmer. With Schofield as a potential name for the fight, Stevenson has put up a “test” for ‘Kid Austin’ in order to get an opportunity to face him.

Talking to Punsh Drunk Boxing, Stevenson wasted no time in trashing Schofield. “I think that they’re kinda using my name to promote themselves. As of now, if they keep calling my name, a lot of people are tuned into it, and honestly, I feel like I’m not gonna allow him to use my name,” he said.

Stevenson further mentioned that he had previously told Schofield that he’d fight him if he beat Zepeda. However, he added that Schofield seemed nervous about the prospect. Now, Stevenson wants him to get through Abdullah Mason before fighting him.

“I’m gonna throw my other little bro [Mason] in there. So, my other little bro is over here, and I’ve got more power in that situation that I can help make that fight happen. So, if he beat my little bro, he could fight me. But I guarantee you he can’t beat my little bro. He ain’t gonna pass the test against Abdullah Mason,” he said. “That’s the fight right there because you gotta realize Kid Austin hasn’t done nothing in the sport of boxing.”

“I Think It’s A Really Good Fight”

While Stevenson does not seem very interested at the prospect of fighting Schofield, Hearn has a lot of confidence in the matchup. Talking to BoxingScene, he revealed why it would end up being a bigger crowd-puller than Stevenson vs Zepeda. “We agreed to fight Zepeda, so did Golden Boy, apparently. But apparently, he’s injured after a very lackluster performance. Schofield is a name that’s in the hat. We’ve been talking to Golden Boy, we’ve made them an offer, and we’re trying to tie that up with His Excellency now,” he said.

“I think it’s a really good fight, two very good undefeated American fighters, a lot of chat, a lot of back and forth in that fight. It’s Thanksgiving today, which is difficult to do business on, but we’ll do our best tonight and see where it gets to.”
