Alabama Receives Major Transfer Portal News

The 2025 spring transfer portal season in college basketball has been chaotic over the past couple weeks, and the Alabama Crimson Tide has been making news with a majority of prospects.

The Tide have built off a solid recruiting class of three four-star recruits by adding three four-star transfers, solidifying their class in the top 10.

One of the top players in the transfer portal, Cedric Coward, named Alabama in his top five of the schools he would play for.

He has since updated that list to two schools remaining, and Alabama has made the final cut, along with Jon Scheyer's Duke Blue Devils.

Coward has declared for the NBA Draft, and still sees the NBA as his highest priority, but will be choosing a school in case he returns to college.

This past season for Coward was cut short due to injury, as he only was active for six games for Washington State. However, in those six games he averaged 17.7 points and 7.0 rebounds per game.

Whichever school in Alabama or Duke would significantly boost their roster on both sides of the basketball.

Duke has retained almost every single depth player for next year, and have a top recruiting class entering in, and could play a similar role to Sion James should he commit to the Blue Devils.

For Alabama, they have lost a couple guards to the NBA, like Labaron Philon and Mark Sears, so a lot of production could be seen from Coward in Tuscaloosa.

With how quickly he narrowed his schools from five to two, it would not be a surprise to see him make his final decision rather quickly, before shifting his focus on the NBA Draft process.
