Grand Canyon University lands Gonzaga transfer Dusty Stromer

PHOENIX — Grand Canyon University has added a former top recruit to its roster, as ex-Gonzaga guard Dusty Stromer announced his commitment to the Lopes.

Stromer, a 6-foot-6 sophomore, spent last season with the Bulldogs, where he averaged 4.3 points and 2.1 rebounds per game while shooting 40% from the field. The California native was a highly touted four-star recruit out of Sherman Oaks Notre Dame High School, known for his scoring ability, length, and defensive potential.

His move to GCU marks a fresh start after limited playing time at Gonzaga, where he found himself behind a deep rotation of upperclassmen. Now, he joins a Grand Canyon program that has become a rising force in the Western Athletic Conference and a growing presence on the national stage. The Lopes have made multiple NCAA Tournament appearances under head coach Bryce Drew, including a first-round win in 2024.

Stromer’s size and skill set make him a strong fit for GCU’s system. His versatility allows him to contribute as a wing or guard, and his shooting ability could provide a boost for a team looking to build on last season’s success. The Lopes lost key players to graduation and the transfer portal but have been active in adding talent this offseason.

Grand Canyon’s growing reputation has made it an attractive landing spot for transfers seeking bigger roles, and Stromer’s commitment reflects that trend. With another former high-major recruit in the mix, the Lopes continue to strengthen their roster as they aim for another deep run in the WAC and beyond.
