Iowa Basketball Loses Top Transfer To Nebraska

The Iowa men's basketball team will look vastly different next season under head coach Ben McCollum.

Earlier this Friday, former Iowa guard Josh Nix announced that he's transferring to Creighton. He's coming off an impressive season where he averaged 14.3 points per game. The talented junior was one of the few brights spots for the Hawkeyes this year.

Dix isn't the only notable player leaving Iowa via the transfer portal. The program has also said goodbye to Pryce Sandfort. However, the Hawkeyes will actually get to see him at least once next season.

Sandfort, who averaged 8.8 points per game for Iowa this season, is transferring to Nebraska for the 2025-26 season. It can't be easy losing a key role player to a rival, but that comes with the territory of making a coaching change.

Before the transfer portal even opened up, Nebraska coach Fred Hoiberg said he wanted to improve his team's shooting.

"Got to get a group in here that has toughness and we've got to improve our shooting," Hoiberg said, via Husker247. "That's one thing, when you look at it, I think we made 100 less threes this year. We'll go to work when the time presents itself. It's going to be an important offseason for us."

Nebraska should be a much better 3-point shooting team next season now that Sandfort is on the roster. The former Iowa forward knocked down 40 percent of his attempts from beyond the arc this season.

We'll see if Sandfort helps Nebraska return to the NCAA Tournament next March.
