The Ole Miss men's basketball team has exceeded expectations this season in the second year of the Chris Beard era. Not only did the Rebels improve dramatically from last season but they are a lock for the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2019, which was the first year of Kermit Davis' tenure.
With great team success comes individual accolades, and one of Ole Miss' best players was recognized by the SEC on Monday. The conference released their annual end-of-season men's basketball awards, and star point guard Sean Pedulla was awarded Third-Team All-SEC honors. He was the only Rebel to be recognized.
Pedulla came to Oxford this summer and joined the Rebels after spending the previous three seasons at Virginia Tech. Last season, he was a Third-Team All-ACC honoree for the Hokies, but he has taken his game to new heights this year in arguably the best conference in men's college basketball history.
Not only does he lead the team in points, assists and steals per game, but Pedulla has been the team's most reliable player and has made several clutch shots for the program this season. As the team's best three-point shooter and ball handler, he commands quite a bit of attention from opposing teams but has found ways to be effective all year.
Hopefully, this honor is a confidence boost for Pedulla because the Rebels will lean on him heavily as the SEC and NCAA Tournaments begin. Ole Miss has several great players on the roster this season and the team is poised for a deep March Madness run, but they may go only as far as Pedulla can take them.
