In Texas A&M’s best season under Buzz Williams, the Aggies have racked up numerous individual and team accolades. The Aggies earned a No. 4 seed in the 2025 NCAA Tournament, the second-best seed in program history, and became the second team in program history to be ranked in every AP Top 25 of the regular season.

Guards Wade Taylor IV and Zhuric Phelps have led the way for Texas A&M throughout the season, one of the best in program history. Taylor and Phelps are the only two Aggies averaging in double figures, with Taylor leading the team at 15.7 points per game and Phelps contributing 14.1. Together, they combine to score 29.8 points per game, making them one of the most productive backcourts in the SEC. Taylor also earned a spot on the All-SEC First Team and broke Texas A&M’s all-time career scoring record in his final season as an Aggie.

The backcourt duo earned another accolade Tuesday, as both players earned spots on the NABC All-District First Team for the Gulf District. The Gulf District comprises all Division I schools in Louisiana and Texas. Texas guard Tre Johnson was the only other SEC representative on the first team, while LSU guard Cam Carter and Texas forward Arthur Kaluma earned spots on the second team. Houston coach Kelvin Sampson was named Coach of the Year for the Gulf District.

This is the second straight season Taylor earned a spot on the first team after earning a spot on the second team in 2023. Taylor has had an illustrious career with the Aggies, becoming the first player in program history to reach 2,000 career points and breaking the SEC record for most career SEC Tournament points. Texas A&M has made three NCAA Tournaments and two SEC Tournament finals in Taylor’s four years with the program.

Phelps earned NABC All-District First Team honors last season with SMU. After averaging 16.1 points per game in his final two seasons with the Mustangs, Phelps successfully made the jump from the American Athletic Conference to the SEC. He started 27 of Texas A&M’s 32 games in his first season with the Aggies and scored a career-high 34 points in Texas A&M’s Jan. 8 win over Oklahoma.

The Aggies’ star guards will look to guide Texas A&M to a deep March Madness run this month. This will be Taylor’s third straight NCAA Tournament appearance, while it will be Phelps’ first, as SMU never made it during his time in Dallas.

The Aggies’ best finish in the NCAA Tournament is the Sweet 16, which they’ve done four times since seeding began. With Taylor and Phelps leading the way for Texas A&M, this may be its best chance to reach the Elite Eight for the first time in program history.
