USC Makes Major Splash By Securing Highly Touted Transfer
Jay Biggerstaff/USA TODAY Sports

The USC Trojans have made a significant move in the college basketball transfer market, securing the commitment of Maryland Terrapins shooting guard Rodney Rice, as reported by On3 Transfer Portal.

Rice, a talented scorer known for his sharpshooting and versatility, is a major addition for a Trojans program looking to rebound after a challenging 17-18 season in 2024.

His decision to join USC over other suitors, including the Tennessee Volunteers, marks a pivotal moment for head coach Eric Musselman’s squad.

Rice’s journey to USC has been notable. After starting his collegiate career with the Virginia Tech Hokies, he then transferred to Maryland, where he made an impact during the Terrapins’ Sweet 16 run in the 2025 NCAA Tournament.

As a Terrapin, Rice showcased his scoring ability, averaging 13.8 points per game and shooting 37% from beyond the arc.

His knack for clutch three-pointers, as seen in games against the Michigan Wolverines and Illinois Fighting Illini, makes him a perfect fit for Musselman’s guard-centric system, which thrives on perimeter play.

For the Trojans, Rice fills a critical void left by the departure of Wesley Yates III, their second-leading scorer last season.

With the Trojans’ transfer portal class previously ranked near the bottom of the Big Ten, Rice’s arrival provides an immediate boost and a potential cornerstone for a program aiming to climb the conference standings.

As USC fans celebrate this coup, the focus now shifts to how Rice will adapt to the Trojans’ fast-paced style and help lead them back to NCAA Tournament contention.
