Villanova women's basketball postpones three games due to COVID-19

The women's basketball team of the Villanova Wildcats has become the latest to go on pause because of coronavirus-related concerns. 

Villanova's brief statement on the matter merely explains that the team is dealing with COVID-19 issues. As a result, games against the Providence Friars on Wednesday, the No. 4-ranked UConn Huskies on Saturday and the No. 19-ranked DePaul Blue Demons on Jan. 20 have all been postponed. Makeup dates for those contests haven't yet been determined. 

As of Tuesday afternoon, Villanova remains scheduled to face the St. John's Red Storm on Jan. 25. The Wildcats haven't competed since earning a 78-71 win over the Seton Hall Pirates last Wednesday that improved them to 8-2 on the season. 

Timelines for such pauses have varied during the campaign based on numerous factors, such as conference guidelines and the number of positive coronavirus tests recorded by a program at any given time. Previous NCAA basketball protocols recommended 14-day quarantines for a team if any Tier 1 player, coach or staff member of a traveling party tested positive for COVID-19. 

Such a break could, theoretically, keep Villanova out of action until a game against Seton Hall currently scheduled to take place on Jan. 30.
