Jihaad Campbell grew up in Erial, New Jersey, and initially attended Timber Creek High School. He later transferred to the prestigious IMG Academy, primarily recognized for its football program. Campbell earned a 5-star recruit rating as the top EDGE prospect in the nation (according to 24/7). He received offers from many major programs, including Georgia, Ohio State, Clemson, LSU, and Michigan. Nick Saban recruited him to Alabama, where he worked his way up from Special Teams and began to see snaps at linebacker.
In 2024, Campbell earned second-team All-American and first-team All-SEC honors from various outlets. Over his college career, he started 21 of the 28 games he played. According to PFF, Campbell primarily lined up in the box as a true linebacker, though he also played 112 snaps on the EDGE in 2024. He recorded seven pressures and three sacks in the two games where he played over 20 snaps on the EDGE.
Among 219 FBS linebackers who logged at least 500 snaps in 2024, Campbell ranked 18th in overall PFF grade, 15th in coverage grade, 36th in run defense grade, 29th in pass rush grade, and 7th in tackling grade. He recorded 89 solo tackles (9th) with a missed tackle rate of 5.9% (10th best).
Alabama LB Jihaad Campbell is probably the most prototypical LB prospect in the 2025 #NFLDraft.#BuildingTheBoard

Despite his technical shortcomings as a linebacker, Jihaad Campbell is the only player I have observed who possesses the physical attributes to stack and shed blockers while also demonstrating the sideline-to-sideline range and the length to cover significant ground in the middle of the field. Even if his coverage drops sometimes resemble a Madden-generated drop zone player, Campbell's potential and consistency are elevated by his physical abilities.
Additionally, his scheme versatility enhances his draft profile. I envision him taking on various roles on both even and odd fronts, with his ideal fit being a downhill WILL linebacker on an even front with an aggressive mindset. However, teams utilizing odd fronts may see him as a perfect SAM backer, akin to Leonard Floyd under Vic Fangio, capable of dropping back, executing run fits, or rushing the passer. His adaptability in coverage, against the run, and as a pass rusher will make him a highly sought-after prospect.
For the Bears, Campbell would undoubtedly be a valuable addition to Dennis Allen's defense. Allen has expressed a desire for an aggressive unit, and we know he appreciates versatile linebackers who can keep offenses guessing, as demonstrated during his time in New Orleans. However, it is unlikely that Campbell will be available past the top 50 picks, and I find it hard to believe the Bears will allocate one of their two second-round selections for a linebacker. Therefore, Campbell appears unlikely to become a Chicago Bear this spring.
