Virginia Tech suspends safety Devon Hunter indefinitely
The Virginia Tech Hokies announced on Monday that the program has indefinitely suspended safety Devon Hunter for "not upholding the high standards we have for our student-athletes."
No further explanation was given.
As noted by Virginia television station WSLS, associate athletic director Pete Morris said that he cannot comment further on the redshirt junior "until the matter is resolved.”
As noted by ESPN on Saturday, Virginia Tech postponed its season opener scheduled for Sept. 19 due to coronavirus "issues" at the school. Football-related activities at the university are paused until Tuesday at the earliest.
The Hokies were originally set to play the North Carolina State Wolfpack on Sept. 12, but that game was moved back to Sept. 26 due to a coronavirus outbreak within the NC State athletic department.
Hunter tallied 16 total tackles during the 2019 campaign.
