Arch Manning's High School Coach Earns New Job

After falling to the Ohio State Buckeyes in the College Football Playoff, the Texas Longhorns will be moving forward with Arch Manning as their starting quarterback.

The last time Manning was named a full-time starter was in his high school days at Isidore Newman School in New Orleans. Under head coach Nelson Stewart, Manning was able to throw for 8,539 yards, 115 touchdowns and just 19 interceptions in his high school career.

But Manning won't be the only one taking on a new role in 2025. Stewart has accepted a new position of his own.

After 19 years with Isidore Newman, Stewart has accepted the head coaching position at Westminster School in Atlanta, Georgia.

Shannon Soares, Director of Athletics at Westminster, released a statement regarding Stewart's hire.

“We are thrilled to welcome Nelson Stewart as our new Head of Program for Football,” Soares said. “Nelson’s leadership presence, ability to develop players through a strong talent pipeline, and tireless work ethic set him apart as a nationally respected leader in high school football. His commitment to mentorship and holistic development has ensured his student-athletes grow as individuals on and off the field, and his strong collegiate relationships and extensive network have provided his student-athletes with access to valuable opportunities."

The statement also highlighted how Westminster could leverage Stewart's experience.

"Nelson understands and respects the landscape of high-performing independent schools and has a proven body of work around culture building, competitive success, and development that will allow our program to honor its traditions and accomplishments while aspiring to new heights,” Soares added.

In his long tenure with his alma mater, Stewart led Isidore Newman to a 162-54 record. Under Stewart, the school also made the playoffs every season, advanced to the semifinals six times and won seven district championships.

Manning isn't the only star Stewart coached in High School. Former New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. was coached by Stewart as well. Even Peyton Manning, Arch's uncle, has ties with Stewart, as the two were teammates at Isidore Newman in the 1990s.

Stewart went on to play football at Tulane University, while Peyton Manning went to Tennessee. Still, the coach has found a solid career for himself outside of playing.
