Browns Draft Target Abdul Carter Reveals Injury Update

Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter had an injury diagnosed in Indianapolis during the NFL Scouting Combine in February. He was diagnosed with a stress reaction in his right foot. Carter also skipped Penn State's Pro Day last month due to a left shoulder injury sustained in the College Football Playoffs.

Carter's agent Drew Rosenhaus told ESPN's Adam Schefter his medical recheck in Indianapolis show he is healing properly and will not need surgery.

"It should be a non-factor with teams at this point," Rosenhaus said of the stress reaction, per Schefter.

Individual teams that meet with Carter will do their independent testing, but Carter only agreed to meet with the top four teams in the draft. The update should cement his status as a surefire top five pick in the upcoming draft on April 24.

The Athletic's Dane Brugler rates the 6-foot-3, 250 pounder as his No. 1 edge rusher. He had nothing but glowing things to say about him in his recent draft guide.

"Overall, Carter is a disruptive presence, because of his explosive nature and how he mixes up rushes to win with speed, force and a budding arsenal of moves," wrote Brugler. "He projects as a 1A pass-rusher, with a gift for consistently making the quarterback move his feet and making plays in the run game."

According to Pro Football Focus, Carter was tied for second in the FBS in pressures last season. He had 66 in 16 games. Last season was his first as a full-time edge-rusher. He was an off-ball linebacker in his first two seasons with Penn State.
