Mike Elko didn’t hold back when addressing the question of attendance at Texas A&M’s spring game, a topic that had been a subject of curiosity among fans and media alike. With a smaller-than-usual crowd filling Kyle Field on Saturday, Elko made sure to address the matter head-on, offering a response that was both candid and classy.

“Look, we know it wasn’t the biggest crowd we’ve seen,” Elko began. “We’re in the middle of a lot of different things going on right now. I don’t think anyone should read too much into it.”

Elko, ever the professional, took the opportunity to shift the focus from the attendance to the bigger picture—the development of his team and the importance of the spring game itself. “It’s not about the number of fans in the stands; it’s about the guys on the field getting better, building chemistry, and preparing for the fall,” he said.

While acknowledging that the low turnout may have been disappointing for some, Elko emphasized the broader perspective. He pointed out that Texas A&M fans have been incredibly supportive over the years, and this spring, with travel and other commitments on the rise, it was simply a challenging time for many to attend.

“I understand that the fans want to see us play, but let’s not forget how much support we get throughout the year, whether it’s during the season or even in these spring practices,” Elko remarked. “Our fanbase is fantastic, and we appreciate their support no matter what.”

Elko’s honest and balanced response reflects his leadership style—a focus on the long-term goals and a realistic understanding of the challenges that come with any program. He made it clear that while the crowd size on Saturday may not have been ideal, it in no way detracts from the team’s progress or the excitement surrounding the upcoming season.

The message was clear: the Aggies are focused on the road ahead, and while the fans’ presence is always valued, it’s the work behind the scenes that will ultimately shape Texas A&M’s future on the field.
