Last offseason, Florida State head coach Mike Norvell went out and got veteran quarterback DJ Uiagalelei in the transfer portal from Oregon State.
That move didn't work out for either Uiagalelei or Florida State, which finished the season 2-10, but in today's NIL and transfer portal world, you have to keep trying if you're a quarterback-hungry coach like Norvell.
Changes are not just on the horizon in Tallahassee, but they're here. The biggest one so far this offseason has been the hiring of Gus Malzahn, who resigned as UCF's head coach last month, to be FSU's new offensive coordinator.
Now, FSU may have its quarterback for 2025 as it's being reported that former Boston College quarterback Thomas Castellanos has committed to the Seminoles via the transfer portal.

The story behind the story in Castellanos landing in Tallahassee is that he has experience in Malzahn's offensive schemes. He's been at Boston College for the past two seasons, but he did play for Malzahn in 2022 at UCF.
Castellanos is considered one of the better dual-threat quarterbacks in the country. He threw for 1,366 yards and 18 touchdowns (five interceptions) in 2024 for BC while rushing 93 times for 194 yards and a touchdown, but he really made a name for himself in 2023. In that season, he threw for 2,248 yards and 15 touchdowns (albeit with 14 interceptions), but he also ran 215 times for 1,113 yards and 13 touchdowns for the Golden Eagles in that campaign.
Castellanos barely played at UCF, but he will be familiar with what Malzahn wants to do offensively, and his dual-threat abilities make him a contender to be the starter for FSU in 2025, depending on what happens for the rest of this offseason.
