NFL Insider Adam Schefter Delivers Deion Sanders Warning

FRISCO - Once upon a time Deion Sanders promised to stay at Jackson State, because God had called him to the HBCU to take of the "kids." Then, right on cue, those sacred "kids" took a back seat to "money" and Deion bolted to Colorado.

Repeatedly, Sanders has said he has no interest in another move up the coaching ladder to the NFL. But ... he did at least have a conversation with Jerry  Jones about replacing Mike McCarthy earlier this year. And both of his sons - Shedeur and Shiloh - will be on NFL rosters after this week's draft.

So even if Deion says he isn't moving and despite his new $11 million-per-season contract in Boulder, his omnipresent shadow and opulent image is already infiltrating the NFL.

Apparently the conversation between Jerry and Deion never grew serious enough for a formal interview, and the Cowboys wound up promoting Brian Schottenheimer. But ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter says any team drafting Shedeur - he's projected to be a first-rounder - should be wary that they're also drafted Deion.

“Short of Pittsburgh’s Mike Tomlin, any other coach who drafts Shedeur Sanders better be comfortable with his standing within the organization,” Schefter wrote this week. “Because if that team struggles and the fan base is calling for a coaching change, speculation will start to swirl about Sanders’ father taking over.”

Now that Jerry has even talked with Deion about the Cowboys' job, the same will be true this season if Schottenheimer stumbles out of the gate.

Sanders may seem content at Colorado, where he is retiring jersey numbers and touting a program revival despite only a 13-12 record and no bowl game wins in his first two seasons. But Deion's DNA tells us that he's only comfortable until a bigger paycheck and brighter spotlight come along.
