Oklahoma State is headed to its 18th consecutive bowl game.
OSU will be headed to the Texas Bowl on Dec. 27. OSU will be facing an SEC to be announced later.
The Cowboys will look to get back on track after losing in the Big 12 Championship to Texas on Saturday. Although the championship game was not close, the Cowboys had won seven of eight games going into Arlington and will enter the bowl game ranked No. 20.
Last season, OSU lost 24-17 to Wisconsin in the Guaranteed Rate Bowl. Before that loss, OSU had won two straight bowl games in the Fiesta Bowl and Cheez-It Bowl.
In 17 bowl appearances under Mike Gundy, the Cowboys are 11-6 in those matchups. The Texas Bowl will mark a chance for OSU to get to 10 wins for the eighth time in that span.
OSU will be led by star running back Ollie Gordon in late December. Gordon may enter the game with multiple awards as he has been one of the best players in the nation.
Gordon finished the year as the leading rusher in the FBS, going for 1,614 yards and 20 touchdowns. He will look to put one more big game on the board before heading into next season with his highest expectations yet.
Meanwhile, this could be the final college football game for a number of Cowboys, including Brennan Presley and Alan Bowman, who have played a significant role in the offense’s turnaround.
Ultimately, bowl games are supposed to be celebrations of players and a reward for a successful season. OSU will get to celebrate its potential 10-win season in a few weeks.
