As bowl season comes to a close, programs are looking to lock down big names in the transfer portal.
Former Oregon Ducks quarterback Ty Thompson has committed to the Tulane Green Wave. He announced his decision on social media Friday morning.
“Roll wave,” Thompson wrote in his commitment post.
A source confirmed to Ducks Digest that Thompson intended to enter the transfer portal on December 9 after Oklahoma transfer quarterback Dillon Gabriel announced that he’d be transferring to Oregon. The 6-foot-4, 220-pound quarterback left Oregon after three seasons with the Ducks.
During his time at Oregon, Thompson threw for 456 yards, six touchdowns and four interceptions while completing 42 of his 66 passes (63.6% completion).
Thompson was the highest-rated quarterback in program history, coming out of Gilbert (Ariz.) Mesquite High School, and was rated as a four-star (0.9809) recruit according to the 247Sports Composite.
Thompson redshirted in the 2021 season after Boston College graduate transfer Anthony Brown was named the starter during Mario Cristobal’s last season at Oregon. Thompson then backed up Heisman finalist Bo Nix, who transferred from Auburn, for the past two seasons.
The news of his transfer comes after the quarterback was rumored to visit Iowa this weekend. But it seems Iowa may already have a starting quarterback in Cade McNamara and not having an offensive coordinator at the moment could have deterred Thompson from the Hawkeyes.
The Arizona native found a new home where he can be the starting quarterback with two seasons of eligibility remaining.
